Facebook acquires WhatsApp for $16 billion , Will Continue to operate Messaging Service Independently

So,It’s Official ! Facebook has announced the acquisition of mobile messenger WhatsApp for approximately $16 billion. The deal includes $4 billion in cash, $12 billion in Facebook shares and an additional $3 billion in vesting restricted stock units for the WhatsApp team over the next four years.
In a blog post, WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum reassured users that the acquisition won’t result in any changes for them. Koum will join Facebook’s board of directors.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that “I’m excited to announce that we’ve agreed to acquire WhatsApp and that their entire team will be joining us at Facebook.
Our mission is to make the world more open and connected. We do this by building services that help people share any type of content with any group of people they want. WhatsApp will help us do this by continuing to develop a service that people around the world love to use every day”
Facebook also confirmed that WhatsApp will remain independent however integration with the social giant may come over time.
